Unlocking the Power of Pulse MIG Welding
What is Pulse MIG Welding?
Unlike conventional spray or short-circuit transfer, Pulse MIG welding employs a controlled waveform where current alternates between two levels:
- Peak Current (Ip): Detaches a single droplet of molten wire into the weld pool with every pulse.
- Background Current (Ib): Maintains the arc without adding excess heat.
This one-droplet-per-pulse transfer provides multiple technical benefits:
- Reduced Heat Input: Prevents distortion and burn-through, especially on stainless steel and aluminum.
- Stable Arc Force: Produces consistent penetration profiles and bead geometry.
- Controlled Metal Transfer: Ensures uniform droplet size with minimal spatter.
- Improved Weld Metallurgy: Narrows the heat-affected zone, creating stronger joints.
- Lower Fume Generation: Provides a cleaner weld and reduces post-weld cleanup.
For skilled operators, Pulse MIG offers precise puddle control, predictable fusion, and the versatility to handle both thin and heavy sections with confidence.
